Spa Velia, a proud member of the Green Spa Network, has made it our top priority to reduce our environmental footprint, as well as share our concern for the earth's well being with our guests. We are committed to the process and starting with small steps that lead to larger steps in the right direction. By making a contribution to the effort to keep our planet cleaner and healthier, our team believes we will all benefit with healthier minds and bodies. This fusion of personal and planetary well being fits in perfectly with Spa Velia's philosophy - Sensory Perfection.
We also embrace the concept of Greening the Soul first; that is the notion that greening our precious planet comes from greening our intention and souls first through awareness and then contribution.
Serendipitously, the commercial building in which Spa Velia is located, Columbia Center, has recently been named California's Most Intelligent Building, and the building's management team intends to become the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified Green Building in downtown San Diego by later fall 2008.
Spa Velia is committed to:
- Recycle and use recycled materials.
- Using gift cards that are printed on recyclable material and recycled when redeemed.
- Recycling all printed papers.
- Recycling all consumed bottles and cans used by guests and staff.
- Minimizing use of retail bags by inquiring if guests wish for a bag when purchasing retail products.
- Minimizing use of plastic containers and water bottles. We provide staff with their own logoed reusable water bottles to use on site
- Providing corn based recyclable water cups and non paper tea cups for guests in our lounge.
- Reducing paper usage.
- Introducing updated new hire packages and paperwork are soon to go digital to eliminate wasteful use of paper.
- Utilizing digital and computerized systems and storage to minimize printing.
- Using rechargeable batteries.
Products:
- Strive to be mindful and selective in the choice of products we sell and use in every aspect of the Spa.
- Sell and apply products that are 100 percent cruelty free.
- Retail only fair trade products.
- Use and carry organic product lines for many services, including Epicuren. Our goal is to move towards completely organic in all services.
- Use natural, biodegradable cleaning products.
- Energy and Water Conservation.
- Use energy efficient appliances and install energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems.
- Use low flow toilets and showerheads.
- All treatments designed with maximum relaxation and minimal water waste in mind.
- Spa culture and training is designed for staff to manage resources efficiently i.e. turning off appliances and lights when not in use and conserving water by not allowing it to run unnecessarily.
Other:
- Make close to home purchases from supplies to reduce gas consumption, emissions and support local businesses.
- Our future Spa expansion plans include using eco-friendly paint and building materials as much as possible.
